Trump Warns US May “Suffer Greatly” over Tariffs Ruling

President Donald Trump has warned that the United States could face severe economic consequences if the Supreme Court does not overturn a ruling that declared many of his administration’s tariffs illegal.

Trump’s Warning on Economy

Trump said that if the appeals court ruling is upheld, the U.S. could become “unbelievably poor again” and “suffer so greatly.” He linked the possible economic fallout to the dismantling of trade deals negotiated under his administration.

Trade Agreements at Risk

According to Trump, major agreements with the European Union, Japan, and South Korea may have to be unwound if the tariffs that supported them are struck down. He argued that such deals, including trade with the EU worth close to a trillion dollars, are tied directly to the reciprocal tariff system.

Supreme Court Petition

The administration has filed a request with the Supreme Court to review the appellate court’s ruling. The lower court had ruled that Trump exceeded his presidential powers by using emergency provisions to impose sweeping tariffs. Trump urged the court to act quickly, saying failure to reverse the decision would harm the U.S. economy and weaken its trade leverage.
