Trump Warns Putin Over Ceasefire

U.S. President Donald Trump warned Russian President Vladimir Putin that the United States is prepared to launch an “economic war” if Moscow refuses to agree to a ceasefire in Ukraine. Trump made it clear that Washington will rely on sanctions and financial pressure rather than direct military action, saying, “we’re not going to get into a world war.”

Sanctions as Primary Tool

The president indicated that his administration is still weighing “very serious” sanctions should negotiations fail. Trump said he has attempted to bring Putin and Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskiy together, but warned that Russia would face consequences if it continues to resist peace efforts.

Push for Renewed Peace Talks

Trump emphasized that the path forward lies in dialogue, urging both leaders to reengage in talks to end the fighting. While Zelenskiy has expressed willingness to meet, Putin has yet to signal readiness for a direct negotiation. Trump reiterated that the U.S. will keep applying pressure until progress is made.
