Trump Warns Putin After Russian Jets Breach Estonia

Three Russian MiG-31 fighter jets entered Estonian airspace near Vaindloo Island for around 12 minutes on 19 September 2025, according to Estonian officials. The aircraft reportedly flew without a filed flight plan, kept their transponders off, and failed to communicate with air traffic control.

Russian Response

The Russian Defense Ministry rejected the claim, stating that its aircraft flew only over neutral waters of the Baltic Sea and did not cross into Estonian territory.

NATO and Estonian Reaction

Estonia condemned the incursion as “unprecedentedly brazen” and said it marked the fourth violation of its airspace by Russia this year. Tallinn has requested consultations under NATO’s Article 4, which is invoked when a member feels its security or territorial integrity is under threat.

Trump’s Statement

U.S. President Donald Trump reacted by saying, “I don’t love it,” and warned that there “could be big trouble.” He added that he would be briefed further before deciding on the next course of action.
