Trump Warns Iran Over Any New Attack on Qatar
US President Donald Trump has warned that the United States could launch a massive strike on Iran’s South Pars gas field if Qatar’s LNG facilities are attacked again, sharply raising the stakes in the widening Gulf energy crisis. Trump said he does not want to authorise that level of destruction because of the long-term consequences for Iran, but added that he would not hesitate if Tehran again targeted Qatar.
Trump Warning on Iran Gas Field
Trump’s remarks came after missile attacks damaged Qatar’s Ras Laffan industrial area, one of the world’s most critical LNG hubs. He also said an earlier strike on Iran’s South Pars gas field was carried out without US or Qatari involvement. The statement appeared aimed at drawing a clear red line, with Washington signalling that any repeat attack on Qatar’s energy infrastructure could trigger direct and much heavier retaliation.
Qatar LNG Attack Raises Energy Fears
The warning has intensified market concern because Qatar is among the world’s largest exporters of liquefied natural gas, and any prolonged disruption to its facilities could tighten supply for major buyers across Asia and Europe. The strike on Ras Laffan came amid a wider cycle of escalation after attacks on Iranian gas infrastructure and subsequent threats against Gulf energy sites.
South Pars Strike Signals New Escalation
South Pars is one of the world’s most strategically important gas fields, making Trump’s warning especially significant. A direct threat against that site signals a major escalation in the conflict’s energy dimension and shows that Washington now views attacks on Qatar’s LNG network as a trigger for far stronger retaliation, even while publicly saying it wants to avoid wider destruction inside Iran.
