Trump Signature To Appear On US Currency
US paper currency will soon carry President Donald Trump’s signature, marking the first time a sitting president’s name will appear on American banknotes. The change is being presented by the US Treasury as part of the country’s 250th anniversary commemorations in 2026 and breaks with a long-standing tradition under which paper notes carried the signatures of the Treasury Secretary and the US Treasurer, not the president.
Trump Signature To Appear On US Currency
The Treasury Department said future US paper currency will include Trump’s signature alongside that of Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent. Reports indicate that the first redesigned $100 bills bearing Trump’s signature are expected to enter circulation from summer 2026, with other denominations likely to follow later.
Historic Shift In US Paper Money Tradition
The move ends a 165-year practice tied to federal currency issued since 1861, under which the signature line on US notes belonged to the treasurer rather than the president. The decision makes Trump the first sitting president to have his signature printed on circulating American paper money.
Anniversary Move Sparks Debate
The Treasury has linked the change to America’s 250th anniversary celebrations, describing it as part of a broader commemorative effort. The announcement has already triggered political and legal debate in the United States, especially because living individuals have long been restricted from appearing as portraits on currency, though this change concerns signatures rather than the main face of the note.
