Trump Says US-Iran Ceasefire On Life Support
US President Donald Trump has said the ceasefire with Iran is on “massive life support” after rejecting Tehran’s latest response to a US-backed proposal aimed at ending the conflict.
Trump Rejects Iran Peace Proposal
Trump said the ceasefire was at its weakest point after Iran’s latest proposal failed to meet Washington’s expectations. The US President described Tehran’s response as unacceptable and indicated that the two sides remained far apart on key issues.
The ceasefire has been in place since April 8, but diplomatic efforts have struggled to produce a lasting agreement. Trump’s remarks have raised fresh concerns that hostilities could resume if negotiations collapse.
US-Iran Ceasefire Faces Fresh Crisis
The deadlock comes amid continued tensions over the Strait of Hormuz, sanctions, oil exports and Iran’s nuclear programme. Iran has reportedly demanded sanctions relief, an end to restrictions on oil sales, release of frozen assets and broader regional de-escalation.
Washington, however, has pushed for stronger commitments from Tehran, particularly on nuclear-related issues. The gap between both sides has left the ceasefire fragile despite ongoing attempts by regional and international actors to prevent renewed escalation.
Iran Tensions Raise Global Oil Concerns
The uncertainty has also deepened concerns in global energy markets, as the Strait of Hormuz remains a critical route for oil shipments. Any renewed conflict or disruption in the region could affect crude prices, shipping routes and wider economic stability.
Trump’s comments signal that the US is losing patience with the current negotiation process, while Iran maintains that any agreement must address sanctions, regional security and its national interests.
