Trump Says Ukraine Talks 95% Done, Land Issue Remains

US President Donald Trump said peace talks aimed at ending the Russia-Ukraine war are close to a breakthrough, though major issues remain unresolved. Speaking after meeting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Florida, Trump said discussions covered most elements of a proposed peace framework. He described the talks as constructive but cautioned that a final agreement has not yet been reached.

Security Guarantees Nearly Finalised

Trump said negotiations on security guarantees for Ukraine are close to completion, estimating progress at around 95%. He added that while much of the framework is settled, he prefers not to put a precise figure on diplomatic negotiations. Zelenskyy indicated that several technical and security-related components have seen convergence, but stressed that political decisions still lie ahead.

Territorial Disputes Remain The Core Obstacle

According to Trump, the most difficult unresolved issue relates to territory, particularly regions affected by the fighting in eastern Ukraine. Zelenskyy reiterated that Ukraine’s position on sovereignty and territorial integrity has not changed and that Kyiv does not accept Russian claims over occupied areas.

Russia Factor And Possible Timeline

Trump said he has also spoken with Russian President Vladimir Putin and claimed Moscow wants an end to the conflict, though no ceasefire has been agreed so far. He said the coming weeks would indicate whether the peace effort succeeds, with no formal deal or announcement made at this stage.
