Trump Says Putin Wants To End Ukraine War
US President Donald Trump said that Russian President Vladimir Putin appeared willing to end the Ukraine war after a five-hour meeting between Russian officials and US envoys. Trump described the discussions as “very good,” noting that both sides explored possible frameworks for reducing hostilities.
Kremlin Confirms Talks, But No Breakthrough Yet
According to the Kremlin, the meeting — attended by US envoys including Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner — did not result in any agreement. Russian officials said the talks were constructive but added that key differences remained on issues such as territorial control and Ukraine’s future security arrangements.
Russia Holds Firm On Core Demands
Moscow reiterated that it would not accept any proposal requiring withdrawal from disputed regions. Russian officials said that any settlement must reflect “realities on the ground,” signalling that Russia is unwilling to reverse gains made since 2022. Ukraine and Western partners continue to express skepticism, citing ongoing military activity despite diplomatic outreach.
Peace Efforts Continue Amid Deep Disagreements
While Trump said he believed Putin was serious about exploring an end to the conflict, analysts warned that neither side has shifted enough to make a peace deal immediately feasible. The United States maintains that Ukrainian sovereignty and long-term security must remain central to any negotiation.
