Trump Says Energy Ceasefire Holds Despite Russian Strikes

President Donald Trump has insisted that the Russia-Ukraine energy ceasefire remains in effect, even as Kyiv reported new Russian strikes on energy infrastructure and accused Moscow of violating the arrangement.

Trump Says Energy Ceasefire Still Holds

Trump said Russia and Ukraine had agreed to stop targeting each other’s energy infrastructure and maintained that the understanding remained valid despite reports of fresh attacks.

The ceasefire was announced as part of a US effort to reduce pressure on global fuel markets and lower diesel prices, which have risen sharply amid geopolitical tensions.

Trump has urged both Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to end what he described as a “ridiculous war”.

Ukraine Reports Fresh Russian Energy Strikes

Ukraine said Russian forces struck at least six energy-related sites, including gas infrastructure and fuel facilities, after Trump announced the ceasefire.

Zelensky argued that the attacks showed Russia had not demonstrated a genuine commitment to reciprocal restrictions.

Kyiv said it had refrained from striking Russian oil refineries during the same period and reiterated that it was prepared to observe an energy ceasefire if Moscow did the same.

Ceasefire Terms Remain Unclear

The Kremlin has not publicly endorsed a detailed monitoring mechanism or enforcement framework for the arrangement.

Moscow has also rejected Zelensky’s separate proposal for a 60-day ceasefire that would allow Ukraine to hold presidential elections, saying it prefers negotiations aimed at a broader peace settlement.

The dispute has created uncertainty over whether the energy ceasefire represents a binding agreement or a political understanding promoted by Washington.
