Trump Rules Out U.S. Troops in Ukraine, Eyes Air Support
President Donald Trump confirmed that the U.S. would not deploy ground troops in Ukraine, offering his personal assurance to that effect. He made the statement in a Fox News interview following a high-level summit with European leaders and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Washington.
Air Support Option Left Open
While ruling out boots on the ground, Trump said the U.S. could assist by providing air support as part of its security guarantee. He emphasized that no nation possesses the air capabilities that the U.S. does and indicated air power may become the primary mode of support.
Europe to Take On Ground Role
Trump noted that European allies are prepared to deploy troops on the ground to safeguard Ukraine. He framed U.S. assistance as more strategic and aerial, positioning European partners at the frontline of ground-based defense efforts.
Efforts Toward Peace Talks Continue
The announcement comes amid ongoing efforts to establish security guarantees for Ukraine and lay groundwork for potential peace negotiations. Trump has proposed a diplomatic push, including a possible trilateral summit involving himself, Zelenskyy, and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
