Trump Hopes Ukraine Won’t Need Tomahawks
During a White House meeting with President Volodymyr Zelensky, U.S. President Donald Trump said he hopes the war in Ukraine can end without the need for Tomahawk missiles. He added that supplying them now could escalate tensions.
Zelensky’s Request for Long-Range Weapons
Zelensky had asked Trump for Tomahawk cruise missiles to enhance Ukraine’s ability to strike deeper Russian targets. Trump responded that he would prefer to pursue diplomacy and peace first, and declined to commit to immediate delivery of the missiles.
Peace Over Escalation
Trump called for reducing bloodshed and suggested halting at current frontlines while negotiating a durable ceasefire. Zelensky acknowledged the need for a settlement but emphasized that Ukraine still requires strong military support to defend itself.
