Trump Approves TikTok Deal With Xi’s Backing
President Donald Trump signed an executive order approving a deal that transfers control of TikTok U.S. operations to American investors. The agreement was reportedly endorsed by Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Ownership Structure
Under the new structure, a consortium including Oracle, Silver Lake, and MGX will hold roughly 45–50% of the U.S. business. ByteDance will retain less than 20% ownership to satisfy U.S. law requirements.
Algorithm & Governance Control
The framework gives U.S. control over data, security, and the app’s algorithm. Six of the seven board positions will be held by American appointees.
Status & Conditions
Though signed, the deal is not yet fully implemented. It still requires final formalities and assurances from China to finalize the transfer of control.
