TMC Rejects Allegations of EVM Hacking by Opposition

The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has dismissed claims by the Opposition regarding the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) being vulnerable to hacking. This comes amid a larger debate surrounding EVM reliability, with some Opposition parties demanding a return to paper ballots.

The controversy erupted after Congress and a section of Opposition parties alleged that the machines could be tampered with, influencing election results. While addressing these claims, TMC leaders firmly stated that the focus should remain on electoral transparency and voter trust rather than baseless hacking allegations.

“No Proof to Support EVM Hacking Claims”

TMC leaders emphasized that there has been no substantial evidence to prove EVM hacking. They expressed concerns over spreading misinformation, which could harm public confidence in the electoral process. One senior leader said, “EVMs have been used for decades, and any claims of hacking must be backed by solid evidence, not political rhetoric.”

Despite allegations, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has consistently maintained that the machines are secure, tamper-proof, and designed to ensure free and fair elections. ECI’s multiple demonstrations of EVM reliability have further validated its robustness.

Growing Opposition Demands

Several Opposition parties, including Congress, have questioned the use of EVMs and reiterated demands to return to paper ballots. They argue that the manual system would help eliminate suspicions of manipulation. However, TMC’s stance has distanced itself from these demands, suggesting that the Opposition must instead focus on electoral reforms and strengthening poll oversight.

TMC Urges Constructive Focus

Highlighting the need for constructive measures, the TMC called for enhancing voter confidence through improvements in the existing election system rather than fueling debates without factual backing. Leaders urged parties to concentrate on election strategies and addressing people’s concerns instead of discrediting the system without evidence.

The debate around EVMs remains contentious, but TMC’s stance aligns with maintaining trust in the electoral process while addressing genuine concerns through dialogue and institutional reforms.
