Third Terrorist Neutralized in Akhnoor Operation, Army Dog Killed in Action

Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir neutralized a third terrorist in the ongoing operation in Akhnoor’s Khour sector on Tuesday.

The intense gunfight resumed in the early morning after the encounter had claimed two terrorists earlier. This marked the culmination of a two-day-long operation that began after terrorists opened fire on an army convoy near the Line of Control (LoC).

Terrorists Target Army Convoy Near LoC

The encounter started on Monday morning when terrorists fired at an army ambulance that was part of a convoy near the Assan temple in Jogwan village. In retaliation, special forces and NSG commandos launched an operation, killing one terrorist on the same day. The remaining two terrorists were located in the forest area, where the final push to neutralize them began on Tuesday morning.

Army Dog Phantom Killed in Action

During the fierce encounter, a four-year-old Army dog named Phantom tragically lost its life after being hit by a bullet while aiding the operation. Phantom played a crucial role in locating the terrorists in the jungle area. The Army also deployed BMP-II infantry combat vehicles and helicopters to assist in the operation.

The three terrorists are believed to have infiltrated from across the border, targeting the army convoy early Monday morning. Their efforts to escape into the forest were thwarted by swift retaliation from the security forces, leading to their eventual elimination.
