Third Security Breach at Red Fort During Independence Day Drill
In a mock drill ahead of Independence Day, a Delhi Police “dummy terrorist” disguised as a civilian entered the Red Fort carrying fake explosives. He managed to reach the children’s enclosure, took selfies with security personnel, and recorded videos—yet was not detected in time. This marks the third security breach in recent drills at the historic site.
Testing the Security System
These drills are part of routine checks designed to strengthen readiness before August 15. According to police, at least 15 simulations have been conducted recently. Many were successful, with dummy operatives apprehended. However, this breach highlights gaps in security response.
Errors and Corrections
The police’s Special Cell shared evidence of the exercise with higher authorities, including the Prime Minister’s Security Unit. Officials say that after each test, corrective measures are implemented. So far, no disciplinary actions have been announced for the personnel on duty during these incidents.
Why It Matters
Red Fort is a high-security venue, especially during national celebrations. Multiple recent lapses raise concerns about preparedness and protocol effectiveness. With Independence Day approaching, authorities are under pressure to tighten surveillance and strengthen perimeter safety to avoid any real threats.
