The Resistance Front Denies Role in Pahalgam Attack, Blames Cyber Intrusion
The Resistance Front (TRF), a terror group affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba, has issued a statement denying any involvement in the recent Pahalgam terror attack, where 26 civilians were killed. In a document dated April 25, 2025, and labeled “TRF-89-7A-03-43,” the group claimed that any attribution of the attack to it is “false, hasty, and part of an orchestrated campaign to malign the Kashmiri resistance.”
TRF Pahalgam Denial
In the statement, TRF claimed that a “brief and unauthorized message” was posted from one of its digital platforms following the attack, which led to the narrative that it had claimed responsibility. It now asserts that the message was not official and attributes it to a cyber intrusion. “After an internal audit, we have reason to believe it was the result of a coordinated cyber intrusion – a familiar tactic in the Indian state’s digital warfare arsenal,” the statement reads.
TRF further alleged that early indicators point toward Indian cyber-intelligence operatives being behind the breach. It accused India of using such tactics to create political chaos and build justification for intensified crackdowns in the region. “This is not the first time India has manufactured chaos for political gain,” the group claimed in its rebuttal.
Cyber Intrusion Claim
This denial has come days after Indian intelligence sources indicated that TRF had accepted responsibility for the Pahalgam attack via its social media channels. The apparent contradiction now being projected by TRF has raised questions about the authenticity of its earlier communication and whether this new statement is a damage-control attempt amid international backlash.
While Indian authorities are yet to officially respond to the denial, intelligence agencies are reportedly analyzing both the initial post and this latest statement for inconsistencies and digital fingerprints. Experts suggest the group could be attempting to mitigate global pressure and avoid designation by international bodies that could follow an acknowledged terror strike on civilians.
Kashmir Terror Rebuttal
The statement also accused India of waging psychological and cyber warfare to discredit what TRF calls the “Kashmiri resistance.” However, the broader international community has increasingly recognized TRF’s links with banned terror outfits operating from Pakistan, despite such claims of victimhood and deflection.
With conflicting narratives emerging, the focus now returns to forensic cyber investigations and intelligence reports that may offer clarity on the true perpetrators behind the Pahalgam carnage.
