Tharoor Says Bihar Defeat Needs Urgent Review

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has said the party must conduct a detailed and transparent review of its defeat in the Bihar elections. He noted that he was not contacted by either the Congress leadership or the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) during the campaign, adding that the lack of coordination reflected wider organisational problems that contributed to the poor outcome.

Points To Structural Weaknesses

Tharoor highlighted what he called long-standing issues within the party, including limited grassroots engagement, top-down decision-making and internal communication gaps. He also referred to concerns about “dynastic tendencies” and stressed that these structural weaknesses must be addressed if the party wants to remain competitive in future elections.

Congress Sets Up Review Mechanism

In response to the setback, the Congress has decided to form a committee to examine campaign strategy, candidate selection and overall messaging. Tharoor said he is willing to participate in the process but emphasised that the review must lead to concrete reforms rather than symbolic introspection.
