Tharoor Leads India’s Global Anti-Terror Outreach
In a significant diplomatic move under “Operation Sindoor,” Congress MP Shashi Tharoor is heading an all-party Indian parliamentary delegation to the United States. The visit is part of a multi-nation outreach initiative following the Pahalgam terror attack, aimed at rallying global support against cross-border terrorism and exposing Pakistan’s complicity in fueling it.
“India will not be silenced by terrorism”: Shashi Tharoor sends strong message as delegation departs for US
Operation Sindoor: Seven Teams, One Message
Operation Sindoor comprises seven Indian delegations involving 59 Members of Parliament from across the political spectrum, visiting major world capitals. The initiative, coordinated by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, is designed to convey a united Indian response to the Pahalgam tragedy and underline the country’s zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism.
Each delegation has been tasked with presenting India’s case, building strategic consensus with global allies, and pressing for stronger international action against state-sponsored terrorism, particularly that originating from Pakistan. The all-party nature of the effort demonstrates India’s cohesive national approach, setting aside political differences for a shared cause.
Congress Rift Over Tharoor’s Selection
Despite his seniority and global diplomatic experience, Shashi Tharoor’s selection has not gone down well within sections of the Congress party. The leadership had submitted its own recommendations for the delegation, which were reportedly overlooked by the government in favor of Tharoor. This has led to internal discontent, with party leaders accusing the government of unilateralism.
Responding to the controversy, Tharoor stated, “This is not about party politics. It’s about India. It’s a matter of duty and an honour to represent the country.” His presence in the delegation signals an effort to elevate national interest above partisan politics at a time when India seeks to unify its international voice.
Mission Goals: Global Support and Narrative Correction
The US visit aims to engage lawmakers, think tanks, and diaspora groups, presenting India’s security concerns and experiences with terrorism. Tharoor and his team are expected to counter propaganda narratives, especially those propagated in Western media and international forums that have historically underplayed Pakistan’s role in cross-border terrorism.
Tharoor emphasized India’s resilience and refusal to be intimidated: “We will not be silenced. We will not allow terrorism to dictate our global image or domestic decisions.” The statement reflects India’s growing confidence in taking its message directly to global stakeholders rather than waiting for external validation.
