Tesla to Launch EV Sales in India by April, Starting at ₹21 Lakh
Tesla, the renowned American electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, is poised to commence its retail operations in India by April 2025. The company plans to introduce imported EVs from its Berlin facility, with starting prices expected to be under $25,000 (approximately ₹21 lakh). This strategic move aims to tap into the burgeoning Indian EV market, offering consumers access to Tesla’s innovative electric cars.
Showroom Locations in Delhi and Mumbai
To establish a robust presence, Tesla has identified prime locations for its initial showrooms. In New Delhi, the showroom will be situated in the Aerocity area near the international airport, a hub known for its upscale hotels, retail outlets, and corporate offices. In Mumbai, the chosen site is within the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), a prominent business and retail district. Each showroom is expected to encompass approximately 5,000 square feet, providing ample space to showcase Tesla’s range of vehicles. These showrooms will focus on vehicle sales, with service centers to be established separately.
Expansion of Local Partnerships and Workforce
While Tesla has not yet committed to local manufacturing in India, the company is actively enhancing its engagement with Indian original equipment manufacturer (OEM) suppliers. This initiative aims to increase component sourcing from India, with projections indicating that such sourcing could surpass $1 billion by 2025. In line with its expansion plans, Tesla has posted job advertisements for 13 mid-level positions in India, including roles such as store managers and customer relationship managers. These recruitment efforts underscore Tesla’s commitment to establishing a strong operational foundation in the country.
Tesla’s entry into the Indian market marks a significant milestone in the nation’s automotive landscape, offering consumers access to premium electric vehicles and contributing to the growth of sustainable transportation solutions.
