Terrorist Hideouts Razed in 22 Min: PM Modi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi opened the Monsoon Session of Parliament with a powerful address, declaring that nine terrorist hideouts were destroyed within just 22 minutes during Operation Sindoor. He hailed the operation as a symbol of India’s growing strategic capabilities and praised the Armed Forces for their precision and use of indigenous defence technology.
Modi Declares ‘Vijay Utsav’ as a Celebration of National Progress
Describing the session as a “Vijay Utsav,” the Prime Minister highlighted India’s rising global position. He cited declining inflation rates, robust economic growth pushing India toward becoming the third-largest global economy, and a sharp reduction in poverty, stating that over 25 crore people have been lifted out of it in the last decade. He also referred to India’s achievements in space, including the national flag reaching the International Space Station.
Opposition Targets Government on Pahalgam Attack and Ceasefire
The session, which will continue till August 21 with a break from August 12 to 17, has already seen political friction. Opposition parties are demanding answers on the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians. They have also questioned the objectives and timing of Operation Sindoor and raised concerns about an alleged ceasefire deal that followed soon after.
Multiple MPs from the Opposition have submitted Rule 267 notices to initiate immediate discussions in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. They are also challenging the recent electoral roll revisions in Bihar, claiming the move is politically driven.
Government Assures Debate, Pushes Legislative Agenda
The government has assured that all concerns, including Operation Sindoor and the Pahalgam attack, will be addressed under established parliamentary rules. Union ministers and the Rajya Sabha Chairman have committed to allowing full debates on these matters in the coming days.
Meanwhile, the legislative agenda is packed. Around 15 to 21 bills are expected to be tabled, covering a wide range of issues including income tax amendments, GST reforms, anti-doping regulations, digital attendance for MPs, geo-heritage conservation, and judicial accountability.
A Session to Watch Ahead of General Elections
The digital attendance bill is part of a broader move toward modernising Parliament and increasing accountability. With the next general elections approaching, this Monsoon Session is likely to play a critical role in shaping the political narrative for both the ruling party and the Opposition.
