Telangana to Add 7,000 Beds; CM Revanth Reddy Calls on NRI & Corporate Doctors

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has unveiled a major healthcare initiative, announcing the addition of 7,000 new hospital beds across government super‑speciality hospitals by 9 December 2025. This bold plan aims to significantly enhance public health capacity and improve access to specialist treatments.

Hospital Infrastructure Expansion

The bed expansion will benefit five key government super‑speciality hospitals, including a modern transformation of Osmania General Hospital in Goshamahal into a 2,000‑bed modern facility. The move will help alleviate patient congestion and enhance care availability, especially in urban centres like Hyderabad and regional cities such as Warangal and Nizamabad.

NRI and Corporate Doctors Partnership

CM Revanth Reddy urged NRI and corporate doctors to volunteer in government-run hospitals. A dedicated digital platform will soon be launched, enabling overseas doctors to serve for a week each year, while those based in India can contribute for a month. This aims to bring specialized talent into public healthcare and foster mentorship between seasoned and local practitioners.

Health Tourism and Quality Uplift

The expansion is part of a broader vision to position Hyderabad as a leading healthcare tourism destination. Already hosting patients from more than 60 countries, Telangana plans to leverage this reputation through enhanced clinical infrastructure and a new Vision 2047 roadmap focusing on medical tourism.

Additional Health Initiatives

Other significant measures include:

  • Enhancing specialist departments at hospitals like TIMS (Alwal, Sanathnagar, LB Nagar), NIMS, and Warangal super-speciality facility.
  • Strengthening Aarogyasri’s free treatment coverage of up to ₹10 lakh for eligible families.
  • Introducing unique health ID cards for women from Self‑Help Groups, reviving the “family doctor” model with an emphasis on preventive and community care.
  • Expanding international flight connections, especially to Gulf countries, to support overseas patients.

Budget and Strategic Impact

With approximately ₹11,500 crore allocated to health in the FY26 budget, alongside ₹21,500 crore for education, Telangana’s approach underscores its focus on human capital development. The bed expansion combined with specialist volunteer programs and medical tourism readiness are designed to reduce health inequity and elevate service quality across the state.
