Telangana Orders CBI Probe Into Kaleshwaram Project

After a marathon 10-hour debate in the Telangana Legislative Assembly, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy announced that alleged irregularities in the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project will now be investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The decision came after the Speaker allowed a discussion on the findings of the Justice P.C. Ghose Commission report.

Report Blames Former Leadership

The judicial commission’s report has pointed to large-scale financial irregularities and procedural violations in the execution of three major barrages under the project. It held former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao and senior officials accountable, citing inflated costs and flawed planning. The report recommended a central probe given the involvement of multiple agencies and large financial transactions.

Political Fallout and Transparency

The ruling Congress government and opposition parties clashed during the debate. Former BRS leaders dismissed the report as politically motivated and staged a walkout in protest. In response, Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka stated that the government was presenting only facts, emphasizing that the move was about transparency and accountability, not political vendetta.
