Telangana CM to Take Fight Against G-RAM G Bill to Villages

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Thursday announced that the state government and the Congress party will take their opposition to the G-RAM G Bill to the grassroots by holding meetings across villages in Telangana. He said the campaign would aim to educate rural residents about the implications of the proposed legislation and mobilise public opinion against it.

Statewide Village Outreach Planned

Revanth Reddy said Congress leaders and cadres will organise meetings in all villages of the state as part of a structured outreach programme. He stated that the campaign would involve gram sabhas and local gatherings, with party leaders explaining how the proposed law could affect rural employment and welfare. The Chief Minister also said he would personally address a series of public meetings across different regions of the state during the campaign period.

Concerns Over Employment Guarantee

The Chief Minister reiterated that the G-RAM G Bill, which seeks to replace the existing rural employment guarantee framework, could weaken protections currently available to rural workers. He argued that the earlier law ensured a statutory right to employment and wages, and any dilution of this framework would adversely impact the rural poor. Revanth Reddy accused the Centre of attempting to centralise control and reduce the role of states in implementing rural employment schemes.

Political Strategy and Wider Opposition

Revanth Reddy said the campaign was part of a broader national strategy decided by the Congress leadership to oppose the Bill both politically and legally. He added that senior party leaders may participate in some of the public meetings. Similar opposition has been voiced by other states, with concerns raised about funding responsibilities and the long-term impact on rural livelihoods.
