Telangana CM Oversees SLBC Tunnel Collapse Rescue Efforts
A tragic incident unfolded when a section of the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) tunnel in Nagarkurnool district collapsed, leaving eight workers, including engineers and laborers, trapped inside. Rescue operations have been ongoing for over ten days, with multiple agencies working tirelessly to locate and evacuate the workers.
Chief Minister’s On-Site Assessment
Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy visited the site to evaluate the progress of the rescue operations. He acknowledged the difficulties faced by the rescue teams and admitted that the exact location of the trapped workers remains unknown. The Chief Minister assured the families of those trapped that all possible measures are being taken to expedite the rescue efforts.
Challenges in Rescue Operations
Rescue teams, comprising personnel from multiple agencies, have been working around the clock under extremely challenging conditions. The presence of mud and water inside the tunnel has significantly slowed down the process, making it difficult to reach the workers. Despite deploying advanced technologies and expert personnel, rescuers have yet to establish contact with those trapped.
Innovative Measures and Future Steps
To improve efficiency and ensure the safety of rescue teams, the Chief Minister suggested the potential use of robotic technology to navigate the hazardous tunnel conditions. Additionally, efforts are being made to repair a damaged conveyor belt crucial for silt removal. Once operational, this repair is expected to accelerate the rescue process.

The state government has reiterated its dedication to ensuring the safety of all workers involved in the SLBC project. Continuous monitoring of the situation is being conducted, and necessary resources are being allocated to support the rescue operations and the families of the trapped workers.
