Tejashwi Yadav Hints at Bihar Poll Boycott
RJD leader and Leader of Opposition in Bihar, Tejashwi Yadav, has hinted at the possibility of the Opposition alliance boycotting the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections. The remark comes in the wake of ongoing protests against the Election Commission’s Special Summary Revision (SSR) of electoral rolls.
Allegations Against Election Commission
Tejashwi accused the Election Commission of working under pressure from the BJP and claimed the voter roll revision was designed to delete names of poor and marginalized voters, especially Dalits and minorities. He questioned the timing of the revision, noting that it was taking place during the monsoon season when many people are displaced or without documentation.
Boycott a Possibility, Says RJD
Tejashwi stated that a boycott of the polls is being seriously considered, though no final decision has been taken. He said the INDIA bloc, comprising RJD, Congress, and Left parties, would consult with the public before making any move. “If elections are held without ensuring every eligible voter’s name is on the list, then the elections will be meaningless,” he said.
Opposition Protests Intensify
The Opposition has already staged multiple protests across Bihar. A traffic jam protest was held in Patna, while leaders also wore black attire in Parliament as a symbolic act of dissent. They allege that the SSR process lacks transparency and is being used to undermine democratic participation.
Next Steps Awaited
Tejashwi confirmed that INDIA bloc leaders will soon meet the Election Commission to present their objections formally. He maintained that the alliance is not afraid of elections, but wants them to be fair. The final decision on whether to contest or boycott the polls will be made after discussions with party members and the public.
