Tata Motors Breaks Ground on ₹9,000 Cr Manufacturing Plant in TN
In a major boost to the “Make in India” initiative, Tata Motors Group has initiated the construction of a new state-of-the-art production facility in Panapakkam, Ranipet district, Tamil Nadu. This world-class plant will manufacture next-generation cars, SUVs, and electric vehicles (EVs) for both the domestic and international markets, catering to Tata Motors and Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) requirements.
The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Thiru M.K. Stalin and Tata Sons Chairman, Mr. N. Chandrasekaran, along with several prominent government officials and Tata Group representatives.
New Tata Motors Plant to Drive Employment and Sustainability
The upcoming facility is expected to create over 5,000 direct and indirect job opportunities, significantly boosting the local economy. Designed with a focus on sustainability, the plant will operate using 100% renewable energy, aligning with Tata Motors’ commitment to environmentally responsible manufacturing.
Chief Minister Thiru M.K. Stalin lauded Tata Motors’ decision to expand in Tamil Nadu, stating, “Tata Group has a long-standing relationship with Tamil Nadu and its presence in the state has consistently contributed to nation-building efforts.”
₹9,000 Crore Investment to Establish a Global Production Hub
Tata Motors is set to invest approximately ₹9,000 crore in the greenfield facility, which will have an annual production capacity of over 250,000 vehicles. Production is slated to begin in a phased manner, reaching full capacity within the next 5-7 years. The plant will focus on advanced automotive technologies and world-class manufacturing processes to ensure high-quality output.
Chairman N Chandrasekaran highlighted the strategic significance of the new facility, saying, “We are proud to establish this plant in Tamil Nadu, a state known for its progressive industrial policies and automotive expertise. Our vision is to build a modern, inclusive, and sustainable production facility here, with a focus on empowering women employees across all levels.”
