Tamil Nadu To Deliver Ration Before Diwali

The Tamil Nadu government has announced that it will distribute ration essentials ahead of Diwali directly to homes of senior citizens and differently-abled ration cardholders. The delivery is planned under the state’s Thayumanavar Scheme on October 5 and 6.

Details Of The Scheme

Under the scheme, fair price shop vehicles will carry essential commodities to the doorsteps of beneficiaries rather than having them visit the shops. Government staff will use electronic weighing scales and e-POS machines to ensure transparent and accurate distribution.

Number Of Beneficiaries

Around 21.7 lakh (2.17 million) ration cardholders across the state are expected to benefit from this doorstep delivery initiative.

Purpose And Timing

The government says the early delivery is intended to ease the burden on senior citizens and differently-abled persons during the festival season. Diwali falls on October 20 this year. By bringing ration to their homes, officials hope to reduce congestion at fair price shops.
