Yamuna pollution claim – Bharat Pulse News

The Delhi Jal Board (DJB) has strongly refuted recent claims made regarding the presence of poison in Yamuna River water. The statement came in response to remarks suggesting alarming levels of toxicity in the river, which allegedly poses severe risks to public health. "Factually Incorrect and Baseless" DJB CEO dismissed the allegations as "factually incorrect and without basis," emphasizing that the water quality of the Yamuna is constantly monitored. The CEO clarified that no evidence supports claims of poison or extreme toxicity levels in the river. The DJB reassured citizens about the safety of water supplied in the city, asserting that the agency adheres to stringent water treatment and quality protocols to ensure public health. Monitoring Yamuna’s Water Quality The DJB highlighted that regular checks are conducted on the Yamuna River to assess pollution levels. These checks focus on parameters such as biological oxygen demand, pH levels, and other indicators of water quality. The DJB emphasized that while pollution remains a challenge, claims of the water being "poisoned" are an exaggeration. Challenges in Cleaning the Yamuna Pollution in the Yamuna has been a long-standing issue due to untreated sewage, industrial discharge, and encroachments along the riverbanks. Efforts to rejuvenate the river have been underway, with initiatives like the Yamuna Action Plan and stricter regulations on industrial effluents. However, these efforts face hurdles, including a lack of coordinated action and inadequate enforcement of environmental norms. Public Assurance from DJB The DJB has urged residents not to panic over unverified claims and has reaffirmed its commitment to providing safe and potable water. The agency also called for collaboration between civic bodies, industries, and the public to address the root causes of pollution in the Yamuna. Looking Forward As pollution in the Yamuna continues to raise concerns, the focus remains on long-term solutions to restore the river’s health. With growing awareness and increased efforts, stakeholders hope to see significant progress in addressing pollution and ensuring a cleaner water supply for Delhi’s residents. The DJB’s dismissal of the poisoning claims underscores the importance of relying on verified data to address environmental issues while working collectively to protect the river from further degradation.
