On the occasion of the 10th International Day of Yoga, Prime Minister Narendra Modi led celebrations in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, where he addressed a large gathering and emphasized India's civilizational message of unity and well-being. Speaking at the Beach Road venue, Modi underlined how yoga has emerged as a unifying force globally, transcending borders and ideologies. "This is the time to reinforce the commitment to yoga, to expand its reach, and to further the message of wellness that India has gifted to the world," the Prime Minister said during the event that drew enthusiastic participation from all sections of society, including school children, armed forces personnel, and public officials. Yoga Day Visakhapatnam Event The beachfront venue at Visakhapatnam witnessed thousands of participants performing yoga alongside the Prime Minister in the early hours of June 21. Organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Ayush, the event carried the theme "Yoga for Self and Society", emphasizing the twin focus on individual well-being and societal harmony. Modi, clad in traditional white kurta-pajama with a scarf bearing the International Day of Yoga logo, led the participants through the common yoga protocol routine that included asanas, pranayama, and meditation. Notably, this year’s celebrations highlighted yoga’s role in fostering mental health, with Modi urging citizens to adopt yoga as a daily practice to build resilience and inner peace. Modi’s Message on Yoga’s Global Impact During his speech, the Prime Minister reflected on how yoga has become a global movement over the last decade. “In a world filled with conflict and competition, yoga brings harmony and peace,” he stated, adding that millions across continents were joining India in celebrating the occasion, signifying the global resonance of yoga's philosophy. He also lauded the collective participation of people across India, noting that the spirit of yoga was being embraced from the Himalayas to the coastal towns, and even in Indian missions abroad. "Yoga has become a medium to connect people, to spread positivity, and to promote health as a global value," he remarked. Participation from Armed Forces and Civilians The event in Visakhapatnam was marked by notable attendance from Indian Navy personnel and members of the National Cadet Corps, symbolizing yoga’s growing relevance in fostering physical and mental discipline. Civil society groups, local residents, and children were also seen performing asanas in synchrony with the Prime Minister, reflecting a vibrant community spirit. The event culminated with chants of “Om” and a brief meditation session, reinforcing the day’s message of inner harmony and universal peace.
