The government has officially named six Indian military personnel killed during Operation Sindoor, marking the first formal public acknowledgement of the armed forces’ fatalities in the May 2025 cross-border military campaign. Operation Sindoor Casualty Names The names have been placed in the Roll of Honour section of the National War Memorial. The six personnel include five from the Indian Army and one from the Indian Air Force. They have been identified as Subedar Major Pawan Kumar of Headquarters 10 Infantry Brigade, Rifleman Sunil Kumar of 4 Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry, Lance Naik Dinesh Kumar of 5 Field Regiment, Agniveer Mood Muralinaik of 851 Light Regiment, Havildar Sunil Kumar Singh of 237 Field Workshop Company and Sergeant Surendra Kumar of 39 Wing of the Indian Air Force. National War Memorial Roll Of Honour The inclusion of their names in the National War Memorial records marks the official recognition of their sacrifice during Operation Sindoor. The memorial’s Tyag Chakra records the names, ranks and units of personnel who have made the supreme sacrifice in service of the nation since Independence. Until now, the government had not formally released the identities of the personnel killed during the operation, although casualties had been acknowledged earlier. Operation Sindoor Military Campaign Operation Sindoor was launched in the early hours of May 7, 2025, after the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, in which 26 civilians were killed. The operation targeted terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. It was followed by a period of heightened military exchanges before both sides reached an understanding to stop hostilities. Gallantry Awards For Fallen Personnel Rifleman Sunil Kumar was awarded the Vir Chakra posthumously, while Sergeant Surendra Kumar received the Vayu Medal. The awards recognised their service and sacrifice during the operation.
