US visa abuse – Bharat Pulse News

The United States Embassy in India has issued a strong advisory following a viral video that shows an Indian student being forcefully restrained and handcuffed at Newark Liberty International Airport. The incident, which triggered widespread outrage, has reignited debates over immigration enforcement and visa policies. US Embassy Issues Stern Advisory Responding to the viral footage, the US Embassy stated that while the United States continues to welcome legitimate travelers, “there is no right to visit the United States.” The statement made it explicitly clear that the country “cannot and will not tolerate illegal entry, abuse of visas, or the violation of US law.” The warning comes amid heightened scrutiny of immigration procedures and a surge in student visa applications. The Embassy’s public message aims to serve as a deterrent to those misusing non-immigrant visas or attempting to gain entry into the US under false pretenses. It underscores the legal consequences of any such attempts and reinforces that US border enforcement agencies are empowered to take firm action. Newark Airport Incident Sparks Outrage The controversy began when a video surfaced online showing a visibly distressed Indian student being held down by multiple US airport officials at Newark. In the footage, two officers are seen kneeling on the student while others secure his arms and legs. Eyewitness accounts suggest that the student was stopped during immigration checks and was being prepared for deportation after discrepancies were allegedly found in his travel documents. The video, filmed by an Indian-American entrepreneur present at the airport, described the situation as “a human tragedy.” The recording has since gone viral, prompting strong reactions on social media platforms, with many questioning the treatment meted out to foreign nationals and students. India Responds; Student’s Status Under Review In the wake of the incident, the Consulate General of India in New York confirmed it had taken up the matter with local US authorities. India’s Ministry of External Affairs also sought clarification from the US Embassy in New Delhi regarding the circumstances of the student’s detention, his current condition, and the legal grounds for his restraint. While details about the student’s identity and background remain undisclosed, officials on both sides are working to clarify the situation. Indian authorities have reiterated their commitment to safeguarding the rights and dignity of Indian nationals abroad, especially students who form a significant part of the India-US educational bridge. The case has sparked renewed conversations about visa enforcement practices and the psychological toll such incidents take on international students. As investigations unfold, many are calling for greater transparency, more humane enforcement protocols, and better pre-departure awareness for students traveling to the US.
