India has successfully completed the final development trials of the ULPGM-V3 missile, a UAV-launched precision-guided weapon designed to strengthen drone-based strike capability. DRDO ULPGM-V3 Missile Test The Defence Research and Development Organisation completed the development trials of the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Launched Precision Guided Missile-V3 at its test range near Kurnool in Andhra Pradesh. The missile was tested in both air-to-ground and air-to-air modes, marking an important step in India’s effort to develop advanced indigenous weapons for future battlefield requirements. The successful trials indicate that the system has moved closer to operational readiness after validating its key performance parameters. UAV-Launched Precision Guided Missile The ULPGM-V3 is designed to be launched from unmanned aerial vehicles, giving drones the ability to strike selected targets with precision. Such weapons are important for modern warfare because they allow forces to engage threats while keeping personnel away from direct combat zones. The missile is understood to be a fire-and-forget system, meaning it can guide itself toward the target after launch. Its use in both ground-attack and aerial-target roles makes it a flexible weapon for different combat situations. Indigenous Defence Technology Push The successful test is part of India’s wider push for self-reliance in defence technology. Drone-launched precision weapons are becoming increasingly important as armed forces around the world expand their use of unmanned systems. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO and the teams involved in the project, calling the achievement a major boost for India’s defence capabilities. The development also supports India’s goal of reducing dependence on imported missile systems and strengthening domestic defence manufacturing.
