According to Britain’s High Commissioner to India, Caroline Rowett, approximately 25% of all British visas issued in 2024 went to Indian nationals. This significant figure highlights the growing flow of people-to-people exchanges between the UK and India. Strong UK–India Visa Engagement Rowett stated that the notable share of British visas issued to Indians reflects not just tourism and business travel, but also deeper educational and family connections. She described the relationship as a "vibrant people-to-people engagement" that strengthens bilateral relations. Scholarship and Collaboration Schemes The high commissioner emphasised the success of initiatives like the UK–India Changing Lives Together partnership. Launched in 2021, this scheme supports around 1,000 scholarships annually and funds collaborative research across fields including climate adaptation, public health, and digital innovation. Rowett noted that these programmes are helping to train future leaders and contribute to global resilience. Boost in Cultural and Business Exchange Rowett highlighted the rise in student, academic, and business-to-business travel. She said this exchange is helping facilitate trade deals and sector-specific partnerships, including in education, robotics, creative industries, hospitality, and healthcare. Additionally, she pointed to post-COVID travel recovery and easing of UK immigration norms as factors driving broader travel patterns. Future Plans to Deepen Cooperation Looking ahead, Rowett expressed enthusiasm for expanding visitor visa routes, student mobility, and elite partnerships such as the UK–India tech collaboration. She reiterated that the UK is committed to working with India on both trade and innovation, while ensuring smooth and secure visa processes.
