US President Donald Trump has said Washington has not approved Ukraine’s request to manufacture Patriot missile interceptors, stepping back from earlier statements suggesting Kyiv would receive a production licence. Trump Reconsiders Ukraine Patriot Production Speaking during a Cabinet meeting at Camp David, Trump said discussions were continuing but no final agreement had been reached. He described the proposed transfer of Patriot manufacturing technology as a major decision requiring careful consideration. Trump had previously indicated during a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Turkey that the United States would allow Ukraine to produce the interceptors under licence. His latest comments have introduced uncertainty over whether the arrangement will proceed. Zelenskyy had also said after a recent White House meeting that Trump had accepted Ukraine’s request for production licences. However, the US president clarified that negotiations remained incomplete. US Raises Missile Technology Concerns Trump cited national security concerns surrounding the transfer of advanced American weapons technology. He said Washington must remain cautious because sensitive military knowledge shared with another country could potentially be misused in the future. The US president distinguished between Patriot interceptors, which are designed for air defence, and Tomahawk cruise missiles, which can be used for offensive strikes. Ukraine has sought access to both systems as it attempts to strengthen its military capabilities. Ukraine Seeks More Patriot Interceptors Ukraine has repeatedly requested additional Patriot systems and a domestic production agreement as Russia intensifies ballistic missile and drone attacks. Patriot batteries are among Ukraine’s most important defences against ballistic missiles. Ukrainian officials have continued negotiations with the Pentagon and American defence manufacturers. Zelenskyy has also met executives from companies involved in producing Patriot components to explore deeper cooperation. While Trump has not ruled out a future agreement, his remarks indicate that licensing Ukraine to manufacture the interceptors remains under review.
