Trump comments about Muslims – Bharat Pulse News

US President Donald Trump mocked the popularity of the name Mohammad among Muslims during a campaign rally in Dalton, Georgia, on Friday, October 16, 2026. The remarks came as Trump criticised Iran's political leadership while campaigning for Republican candidates ahead of the November 3 US midterm elections. Trump Jokes About Mohammad Name at Georgia Rally Addressing supporters at Dalton Municipal Airport, President Trump joked that calling someone from the Middle East Mohammad would give him a 65% chance of getting their name right. He claimed to have used the approach for years without making a mistake. The percentage was presented as part of his joke rather than a verified statistic. Mohammad, along with its alternative spellings, is among the most common male names in Muslim communities worldwide, reflecting the tradition of naming children after the Prophet Muhammad. The remarks reportedly received a muted response from the audience. Trump Mocks Iranian Presidency Amid Middle East Conflict Trump made the comments while discussing Iran's political leadership and the ongoing conflict involving the United States, Israel and Tehran. He joked that nobody wanted to become Iran's president, imagining several people named Mohammad declining the position. Iran has been led by President Masoud Pezeshkian since 2024. Trump also reiterated his administration's position that Iran must never acquire nuclear weapons, referring to the military campaign launched by the United States and Israel earlier this year. Muslim Rights Groups Criticise Trump's Rhetoric Muslim civil rights organisations have repeatedly criticised Trump's public statements about Muslims, immigrants and ethnic minorities, arguing that such rhetoric contributes to discrimination. His recent campaign remarks have also targeted Muslim American political figures, including Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed and Democratic Representative Ilhan Omar. The Council on American-Islamic Relations has previously linked rising anti-Muslim discrimination in the United States partly to Trump administration policies.
