Toshakhana – Bharat Pulse News

A special court in Pakistan has sentenced former prime minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi to 17 years of imprisonment each in the Toshakhana corruption case, dealing a major blow to the jailed opposition leader and his political camp. Court Verdict and Sentence The verdict was delivered by a trial court operating from Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, where Imran Khan is already incarcerated in connection with multiple other cases. The court found both Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi guilty of illegally retaining and benefiting from state gifts received during Khan’s tenure as prime minister. In addition to the prison term, the court also imposed substantial financial penalties on both. What the Case Is About The Toshakhana case relates to allegations that luxury gifts received from foreign dignitaries were either under-declared or sold in violation of rules governing state property. Prosecutors argued that the accused caused financial loss to the state by misusing official privileges for personal gain. The court accepted these arguments while pronouncing the sentence. Response and Next Steps Both Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi have denied all charges and maintained that the case is politically motivated. Their legal team has indicated that they will challenge the conviction in higher courts. The ruling adds to a series of legal setbacks for Khan, who remains a central and polarising figure in Pakistan’s political landscape. Political Impact The conviction is expected to further intensify political tensions in Pakistan, especially as Khan’s party continues to allege judicial and institutional bias against him.
