The rebound in monthly performance comes after a significant slump in May and places Tesla back in the spotlight amid intensifying EV competition across Britain. Model Y Drives June Recovery Tesla sold 7,891 units in June 2025 compared to 7,019 during the same month last year. The increase coincides with the delivery of an updated Model Y, which features improved range, refined interiors, and software upgrades. Analysts believe this specific model played a major role in the rebound, following a 45% decline in sales in May, which had raised concerns over Tesla’s inventory and demand pipeline in the UK. Year-to-Date Sales Still Lagging Despite the strong June figures, Tesla’s total sales in the UK for the first half of 2025 are still about 2% lower than in the same period of 2024. The company’s sales slump earlier in the year has yet to be fully offset, even with the Model Y refresh injecting short-term momentum. EV Market Growth and Rising Competition The June sales increase aligns with a broader trend in the UK auto market, where total new car registrations rose by 12.8% to 187,655 units. Notably, battery electric vehicle (BEV) sales jumped 45.5% year-on-year, reflecting growing consumer interest and supportive policy frameworks. However, Tesla is facing mounting pressure from rivals. Chinese automaker BYD saw its UK sales quadruple to 2,498 units, and Ford’s EV sales have grown more than four-fold so far in 2025. The crowded EV market means Tesla must maintain product innovation and supply consistency to preserve its market share.
