Tenerife – Bharat Pulse News

A cruise ship linked to a rare hantavirus outbreak is expected to reach Tenerife in Spain’s Canary Islands, where passengers and crew will be evacuated under strict public health measures. Hantavirus Outbreak On MV Hondius The MV Hondius has been linked to a hantavirus outbreak after multiple passengers fell ill during or after the voyage. Health authorities are investigating suspected and confirmed cases connected to the ship, including reported deaths. The outbreak has raised concern because the strain involved is believed to be linked to Andes hantavirus, a rare type that can spread between humans in limited close-contact situations. Most hantavirus infections are usually linked to exposure to infected rodents. Tenerife Evacuation Plan For Cruise Ship Spanish authorities have approved the ship’s arrival near Tenerife despite concern from local leaders in the Canary Islands. The evacuation is expected to be carried out under controlled conditions to reduce contact with the local population. Passengers and crew are expected to undergo medical screening, isolation or repatriation depending on their risk level and symptoms. Some countries have already started contact tracing for nationals who were on board or who disembarked earlier during the voyage. Public Health Risk Remains Low Health agencies have said the risk to the wider public remains low, but the situation is being treated cautiously because of the seriousness of hantavirus pulmonary syndrome. The case has revived concerns over infectious disease management on ships, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic. Authorities are now focused on safe evacuation, monitoring close contacts and identifying where the original exposure may have occurred.
