Health authorities are investigating suspected and confirmed cases connected to the ship, including reported deaths. The outbreak has raised concern because the strain involved is believed to be linked to Andes hantavirus, a rare type that can spread between humans in limited close-contact situations. Most hantavirus infections are usually linked to exposure to infected rodents. Tenerife Evacuation Plan For Cruise Ship Spanish authorities have approved the ship’s arrival near Tenerife despite concern from local leaders in the Canary Islands. The evacuation is expected to be carried out under controlled conditions to reduce contact with the local population.
