Former Tamil Nadu BJP president K. Annamalai has criticised the security arrangements planned for the NEET UG 2026 re-examination, saying the strict checks and surveillance measures could increase pressure on students already facing stress after the exam controversy. Annamalai Criticises NEET Retest Security Annamalai questioned the scale of arrangements announced for the NEET UG re-test scheduled for June 21. He referred to measures such as CRPF and CISF escort, AI-enabled CCTV surveillance, biometric verification, facial recognition, multiple layers of frisking and monitoring by senior authorities. He said students would welcome steps to prevent paper leaks, but argued that excessive scrutiny before entry could add to their anxiety. He also pointed out that the examination time has increased from 180 minutes to 195 minutes, including additional time for formalities. NEET UG Re-Examination On June 21 The National Testing Agency is scheduled to conduct the NEET UG 2026 re-examination on June 21 from 2 pm to 5.15 pm in pen-and-paper mode. The re-test was announced after the earlier examination was cancelled following paper leak allegations. Fresh admit cards have been issued for candidates appearing in the re-examination. However, students have reported difficulties in downloading admit cards, adding to concerns ahead of the exam. BJP Responds To Annamalai’s Remarks The BJP responded to Annamalai’s criticism by saying strong security measures are necessary for large-scale competitive examinations. Party leaders argued that biometric checks, CCTV monitoring and strict supervision are meant to protect merit and prevent malpractice. The exchange has brought renewed focus on the balance between examination security and student stress as lakhs of medical aspirants prepare for the re-test.
