Saudi Turkiye Pakistan defence pact

US President Donald Trump has welcomed the new defence agreement between Saudi Arabia, Turkiye and Pakistan, describing it as a “big, bold and important first step” towards stronger regional security. The three countries signed the Mecca Joint Defence Agreement on August 7, establishing a collective defence framework. Trump Backs Saudi-Turkiye-Pakistan Defence Pact Trump said he was pleased that Saudi Arabia, Turkiye and Pakistan had finalised the agreement, arguing that it reflected countries in the region taking greater responsibility for their own defence. The US president said the pact demonstrated growing regional cooperation and would allow participating countries to strengthen their collective security capabilities. His remarks amount to a clear public endorsement of the new defence arrangement by Washington. Mecca Defence Pact Creates Mutual Security Clause Under the Mecca Joint Defence Agreement, an armed attack against any one of the three participating countries would be treated as an attack against all three. The arrangement has drawn comparisons with NATO’s Article 5 collective-defence principle, although “Islamic NATO” remains an informal description rather than the official name of the alliance. The agreement also envisages deeper military coordination, joint exercises and greater cooperation in defence technology and security planning. India Watches New Regional Defence Alliance The emergence of the Saudi-Turkiye-Pakistan security framework is being closely watched in India because Pakistan is one of its three founding members. New Delhi has said it is examining the pact’s implications for national security and regional stability and will take necessary measures to protect its interests. The alliance could also expand further, with Egypt being discussed as a possible future participant.
