Russia airstrikes – Bharat Pulse News

In a sharp escalation of rhetoric, U.S. President Donald Trump has denounced Russian President Vladimir Putin as "absolutely crazy" following Russia’s largest missile and drone assault on Ukraine since the war began. The remarks signal a notable shift in Trump’s tone, given his past claims of having a "very good relationship" with the Russian leader. Russia Launches Massive Airstrikes on Ukraine On May 25, 2025, Russia unleashed an unprecedented wave of over 400 projectiles, including Iranian Shahed drones and North Korean-supplied ballistic missiles, across Ukrainian territory. The air assault struck key cities and energy infrastructure, resulting in at least 12 civilian deaths and over 70 injuries, including multiple children. Ukrainian authorities described it as one of the most devastating attacks since the 2022 invasion. The use of foreign-supplied weapons in the offensive has further intensified scrutiny of Russia’s alliances with Iran and North Korea. Ukrainian officials reported widespread damage to power grids, hospitals, and residential areas, with multiple cities experiencing temporary blackouts. Trump’s Condemnation of Putin Reacting to the strikes, Trump took to Truth Social and issued a strong condemnation of Vladimir Putin, stating: “I’ve always had a very good relationship with Vladimir Putin of Russia, but something has happened to him. He has gone absolutely CRAZY! He is needlessly killing a lot of people, and I’m not just talking about soldiers. Missiles and drones are being shot into cities in Ukraine, for no reason whatsoever.” In a rare warning tone, Trump added that a full-scale occupation of Ukraine would "lead to the downfall of Russia." His remarks came amid growing bipartisan pressure in Washington to reassess U.S. policy on Russia and increase penalties for aggression. Criticism of Ukraine's Zelenskyy In an unexpected twist, Trump also criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. "Everything out of his mouth causes problems, I don't like it, and it better stop," Trump said, suggesting that Zelenskyy's public statements are further inflaming tensions. While Trump did not elaborate, the comment drew mixed reactions in the U.S., with some viewing it as undermining Ukraine’s moral high ground. Sanctions Under Review Asked whether he would consider new sanctions on Russia, Trump replied, “Absolutely.” Although no specific sanctions have been announced yet, U.S. officials are reportedly evaluating options for additional economic measures targeting Russian banks, defense suppliers, and tech infrastructure. The Biden-era sanctions, many of which remain in place, have had a mixed impact on Russia's war economy. Trump’s team is believed to be weighing more aggressive steps, including secondary sanctions on countries continuing to trade military components with Russia. Global Response and Ceasefire Deadlock International reaction to the strikes was swift. The European Union imposed a fresh round of sanctions on Russian defense firms and individuals close to the Kremlin. Meanwhile, Ukraine continues to call for international assistance and air defense systems to counter incoming threats. Notably, the strikes occurred just days after a 1,000-for-1,000 prisoner exchange between Russia and Ukraine, arranged through Turkey’s mediation. Despite the exchange, Russia has rejected a U.S.-proposed 30-day ceasefire framework aimed at halting hostilities and resuming stalled peace talks. As the war grinds on, the world watches closely. Trump’s newfound harsh stance on Putin may alter the political dynamics in the U.S. ahead of the presidential elections and redefine how future diplomacy with Moscow unfolds.
