The Delhi High Court has upheld actor Rajpal Yadav’s conviction in seven cheque dishonour cases and sentenced him to three months of simple imprisonment in each case. The sentences will run concurrently, meaning he will serve a total jail term of three months. Rajpal Yadav Conviction Upheld by Delhi High Court Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma rejected Yadav’s challenge to his conviction and declined to grant him the benefit of probation. The cases arose from dishonoured cheques issued in connection with financial transactions involving Murli Projects Private Limited and Yadav’s production company, Shree Navrang Godawari Entertainment Private Limited. The court observed that Yadav had received repeated opportunities to honour settlement commitments made during the proceedings but failed to comply with the undertakings. Rajpal Yadav Ordered to Pay Compensation Yadav has been directed to pay ₹1.05 crore in each of the seven cases. Of this amount, ₹1,04,75,000 in each case will be paid to the complainant, while ₹25,000 will go to the state. His wife, Radha Yadav, has separately been directed to pay ₹5,51,380 to the complainant in each case. The court noted that ₹2.25 crore had already been paid and released to the complainant. This amount will be adjusted while calculating the remaining fine and compensation. Actor Gets Time to Approach Supreme Court The Delhi High Court granted Yadav two months to challenge the judgment before the Supreme Court. The court said legal proceedings could not be altered according to a litigant’s changing strategy and stressed that the law must be applied equally, irrespective of a person’s profession or public standing. Yadav’s production company, which has been struck off the Registrar of Companies’ records, was admonished in all seven cases.
