Tamil Nadu School Education Minister Rajmohan has said the state will not allow any direct or indirect attempt to implement the PM SHRI scheme, while opposing the Centre’s decision to withhold education-related funds over the issue. Tamil Nadu Opposes PM SHRI Scheme Rajmohan said Tamil Nadu would not accept indirect efforts to bring the Prime Minister’s Schools for Rising India scheme into the state. His remarks came amid the continuing disagreement between the Tamil Nadu government and the Centre over the implementation of PM SHRI. The minister said education funds are meant for students and should not be held back because of policy differences between the Centre and the state. He added that Tamil Nadu would examine only those policies that match its own educational goals. Tamil Nadu Two-Language Policy Rajmohan also reiterated Tamil Nadu’s position on the two-language policy. He said the state would continue to support education in the mother tongue and English, and there was no scope for ideological compromise on the issue. The state government has repeatedly objected to policies it believes could indirectly introduce a three-language framework. Tamil Nadu has maintained that its education policy must remain aligned with the state’s long-standing linguistic and social priorities. Government School Infrastructure In Tamil Nadu The minister said his department would focus on improving basic infrastructure in government schools. This includes better maintenance of toilets, clean drinking water, upgraded classrooms and efforts to increase enrolment in government institutions. As part of the department’s work, teacher training material and handbooks for classes 1 to 3 were distributed to 200 state-level trainers. These trainers will support primary school teachers across districts. The department has also released nine textbooks and 3.24 lakh handbooks for teachers.
