Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has accused Union Home Minister Amit Shah of authorising the alleged use of pellet guns and other force against students during recent protests in Delhi, a claim denied by the police. He argued that authorities could not be permitted to use potentially lethal weapons against students exercising their democratic rights. The Congress leader had earlier appeared before the media with a protester who allegedly suffered damage to one eye from a pellet injury. The circumstances surrounding the injury have not been independently established. Delhi Police Deny Pellet Gun Claims Delhi Police have rejected allegations that pellet guns were deployed during the “Sansad Chalo” protest. Police officials maintained that the force does not possess pellet guns in its arsenal and described claims about their use as false. No official evidence has been released establishing that Shah personally authorised the use of pellet guns or other lethal weapons. The allegation remains disputed between the Opposition and law enforcement authorities. Police used tear gas and batons during confrontations with sections of protesters, while videos also showed incidents of violence and damage during the demonstrations. Rahul Gandhi Plans Parliament Debate Gandhi made the allegations after Dharmendra Pradhan resigned as Union Education Minister. He called Pradhan’s departure a victory for students but said it represented only the first step towards wider education reforms. He also demanded accountability for the police response and warned that protests could return on a significantly larger scale if remaining student concerns were ignored.
