Qatar mediation Iran conflict – Bharat Pulse News

Qatar has reported progress in mediation aimed at ending the US-Iran conflict, although uncertainty remains over whether direct negotiations have begun. The diplomatic push continued as another commercial vessel was struck near the Strait of Hormuz. Qatar Reports Progress in US-Iran Mediation Qatar said mediators were making progress towards restoring the ceasefire outlined in a mid-June memorandum between Washington and Tehran. PM Donald Trump discussed the situation with Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and stressed the importance of dialogue. Qatar, Oman and Pakistan are working to establish formal negotiations between the two sides. However, conflicting statements have raised questions about the current status of the diplomatic process. President Donald Trump said talks with Iran had started, while Iranian officials denied holding direct negotiations with the United States. Tehran maintains that its discussions are being conducted through regional mediators. Hormuz Reopening Remains Major Sticking Point Reopening the Strait of Hormuz remains central to the negotiations. The waterway normally carries approximately 20% of global oil supplies and is also essential for liquefied natural gas shipments. Iran and Oman are discussing a temporary arrangement under which ships would enter the Persian Gulf through an Iranian-controlled lane and exit through Omani waters. Washington opposes any Iranian attempt to impose transit fees or exercise permanent control over the international shipping route. Iran is also seeking changes to the US naval blockade and restrictions on its oil exports. Commercial Ship Struck Near Strait A commercial vessel was struck near Oman while the diplomatic discussions continued, highlighting the persistent security threat facing regional shipping. Limited information was immediately available about the vessel, its crew or the party responsible. The incident followed several attacks on merchant ships around the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea. These disruptions have reduced energy shipments, raised insurance costs and forced vessels to avoid important maritime routes. Oil prices declined following reports of diplomatic progress, but markets remain sensitive to developments around the strait.
