Rainfall in the catchment areas of Pune’s key dams has increased water storage by 1 TMC in 24 hours, improving short-term water availability for the city after recent monsoon showers. Pune Dam Water Stock Rises After Rain The four major dams supplying water to Pune Municipal Corporation areas — Khadakwasla, Temghar, Panshet and Varasgaon — recorded a combined storage of 5.72 TMC by 5pm on Sunday. The increase came after rainfall in the catchments of Khadakwasla, Temghar, Panshet and Varasgaon. In the 24-hour period, Khadakwasla recorded 16mm rainfall, Temghar 46mm, Panshet 45mm and Varasgaon 44mm. Khadakwasla Dam Chain Storage Improves The latest storage level is around 19.6 percent of the total capacity of the four-dam system. Temghar held 0.22 TMC, Varasgaon 2.55 TMC, Panshet 2.65 TMC and Khadakwasla 0.31 TMC. However, the current stock remains much lower than the same period last year, when the four dams had 17.15 TMC of water, around 59 percent of total capacity. Pune Water Supply And Dam Release Status Officials said water levels have improved, but there has not been any major rise requiring discharge from the dams. No water was released from the dams as of Sunday evening. The irrigation department is expected to begin discharge from Khadakwasla only when storage reaches around 1.97 TMC. Meanwhile, Pavana dam, which supplies Pimpri Chinchwad, held 2.29 TMC after recording 74mm rainfall. Bhama Askhed, which serves eastern Pune, recorded 39mm rainfall and held 2.65 TMC.
