US President Donald Trump has unveiled a Qatar-gifted Boeing 747-8 that is expected to temporarily serve as the presidential aircraft while the delayed next-generation Air Force One programme continues. Qatar-Gifted Air Force One Jet Unveiled The aircraft was presented at Joint Base Andrews and has been described as a temporary addition to the presidential air fleet. The Boeing 747-8 was gifted by Qatar and has since undergone modifications for use by the US president. The jet features a new red, white, dark blue and gold livery, replacing the familiar light blue design associated with earlier presidential aircraft. It has been fitted with luxury interiors, including leather seating, carpets, wooden panels and official décor. Trump Defends Qatar Boeing 747 Gift Trump praised the aircraft and described it as a modern “flying White House”. He said the United States needed an updated presidential aircraft comparable to those used by other world leaders. The gift has triggered criticism from opponents and ethics experts, who raised concerns over accepting a high-value aircraft from a foreign government. Security specialists have also questioned the challenges involved in converting a foreign-owned luxury jet into a secure presidential aircraft. Air Force One Replacement Faces Boeing Delays The Qatar-gifted aircraft is expected to serve as an interim solution while Boeing continues work on two official replacement Air Force One jets. The new aircraft programme has faced delays and rising costs, pushing delivery timelines further than originally planned. The modified jet is expected to include advanced communications, security and defensive systems required for presidential travel. Once operational, it will carry the Air Force One call sign only when the US president is on board.
