The Union Cabinet has approved the continuation of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme for another five years, allocating ₹3.15 lakh crore for direct income support to eligible farming families. PM-KISAN Extended Until 2030-31 The scheme will continue from the 2026-27 financial year through 2030-31 following approval by the Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. PM-KISAN was launched in February 2019 as a fully funded Central Sector scheme. It provides financial assistance to eligible landholding farmer families through direct transfers into verified bank accounts. The extension does not increase the annual payment. Beneficiaries will continue receiving ₹6,000 each year through three instalments of ₹2,000. PM-KISAN Payments Remain Unchanged Payments are processed through the Direct Benefit Transfer system using Aadhaar authentication and digital verification. The government said this mechanism improves transparency and ensures that assistance reaches eligible beneficiaries without intermediaries. The financial support is intended to help farmers meet expenses related to seeds, fertilisers, irrigation, machinery and other agricultural requirements. It is also expected to reduce dependence on informal credit and improve the financial stability of rural households. Eligibility conditions under the scheme remain unchanged following the Cabinet’s decision. Over ₹4.47 Lakh Crore Transferred Since its launch, more than ₹4.47 lakh crore has been transferred through 23 PM-KISAN instalments. The 23rd instalment reached more than 9.49 crore farmers, with over ₹18,984 crore deposited in their accounts. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the scheme distributed more than ₹1.71 lakh crore to farming families. Women farmers have received over ₹1.06 lakh crore under PM-KISAN and account for nearly one-fourth of its beneficiaries. The government said the five-year extension would maintain predictable income support while strengthening agricultural investment and rural livelihoods.
