The Indian Army is poised to strengthen its artillery capabilities with the upcoming delivery of the first batch of Guided Pinaka Rockets. The indigenous weapon system, known for its precision and enhanced range, represents a significant upgrade in India’s defense arsenal. Pinaka Rockets: A Game-Changer for Artillery Developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) in collaboration with private sector partners, the Guided Pinaka Rocket is an advanced version of the original Pinaka Multi-Barrel Rocket Launcher (MBRL) system. It boasts a range of over 75 kilometers, significantly greater than its predecessor, and is equipped with state-of-the-art guidance and navigation systems for precise targeting. The system’s ability to carry a variety of warheads, coupled with its increased range, makes it a versatile weapon for multiple battlefield scenarios. Designed for quick deployment, the Guided Pinaka Rocket is expected to provide a strategic edge to the Indian Army, especially in high-intensity conflict zones. Delivery Timeline and Strategic Significance The Indian Army is set to receive the first batch of these advanced rockets by late 2025. This delivery marks a milestone in India’s push towards indigenization of defense technology under the “Make in India” initiative. The production of these rockets involves a significant contribution from private industry players, showcasing the growing synergy between the public and private sectors in the defense domain. Once operational, the Guided Pinaka Rockets will augment the Indian Army’s ability to conduct precision strikes on enemy targets, reducing collateral damage and increasing operational efficiency. Future Prospects The successful induction of the Guided Pinaka Rockets into the Indian Army’s arsenal is expected to pave the way for further advancements in indigenous artillery systems. With ongoing upgrades and new developments, the Indian defense establishment aims to achieve self-reliance while maintaining a robust deterrence capability against adversaries. This milestone highlights India's commitment to modernizing its armed forces and reinforces its position as a rising defense technology hub.
