The United States has assured India that access to advanced technology, once granted, will not be abruptly withdrawn, Electronics and IT Secretary S Krishnan said during discussions on artificial intelligence, semiconductors and critical technology cooperation. India US Technology Access Assurance Krishnan said American officials conveyed that technology access provided to India would not be cut off later. The assurance comes amid concerns over the reliability of global technology partnerships, especially in sectors such as artificial intelligence, semiconductors and advanced computing. He said the US side raised concerns over the possible use of powerful AI models and the impact such systems could have once released. According to him, Washington is looking at internal review mechanisms for some advanced models before they are made available. Pax Silica Summit Talks The remarks were made on the sidelines of the second Pax Silica Summit in Washington, where India and the US discussed cooperation in secure technology supply chains. The summit focused on areas including AI, semiconductor manufacturing, critical minerals and trusted digital infrastructure. Krishnan also met US Under Secretary of State Jacob Helberg during the engagement. The discussions were part of wider India-US efforts to strengthen technology cooperation and reduce dependence on concentrated global supply chains. India AI Regulation Position Krishnan reiterated India’s view that the technology sector still needs space for innovation. He said India is not opposed to regulation, but believes the current phase requires careful observation and flexibility before strict regulatory structures are imposed. India has maintained that emerging technologies should be governed in a way that supports innovation, protects users and allows domestic capability-building.
